Ari D Norman launches new competition for young designers

Ari D Norman has a rich and unusual heritage and history, with influences mainly stemming from Victorian, Art Nouveau and Art Deco design, and it is the first jeweller to receive the Queen’s Award for export. The brand says that it strongly believes, not only commercially but creatively, that it is of paramount importance to nurture and mentor young talent. The brief for the competition involves designing a collection (minimum eight pieces) that draws from the Ari D Norman design philosophy of family, adventure, tradition, art, life, Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Victoriana, and very importantly combines this with a modern take on current fashion and creativity. The collection can consist of all jewellery, all gifts, or a combination of the two, but designs must be authentic, new and original, not recycled or regurgitated. You may submit designs for either: Ari Sterling brand – sterling silver jewellery and gifts for all, inspired by the trilogy of the Victorian, Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras; or, JewelAri brand – bold and beautiful costume jewellery and gifts evolving from the Ari Sterling brand, with sparkling elegance and brilliant colours. Designs will be judged based on how true to the Ari D Norman philosophy they are; functionality in either look or purpose; saleability and commercially viability; and innovative techniques, materials and perspective. All applicants must be over the age of 16, and must submit signed and dated designs, with each entry accompanied by a description of the design and materials used. The closing date for all submissions is Friday 16 August 2013, with the winner to be announced on the brand’s website on Friday 23 August 2013.
