Jewellery thieves make off with £17,000 in stolen jewellery

A Portsmouth jeweller has been hit by thieves who cut a hole in the roof, and made off with almost £17,000 worth of jewellery.

The Gold Shop, owned by one Jason Wright, is the second victim of a rooftop break-in on London Road in Waterlooville in the last 12 months. Wright, who has owned the shop for 10 years, was on holiday at the time and was contacted by son Lewis, after he went to open for the day and discovered it had been raided.

Bracelets, necklaces and dozens of rings were taken. Wright has offered a £1,000 reward to anyone who has any information that leads to a conviction. The store, which is secured by shutter, is the latest in a string of incidences in the area, and Waterlooville police are investigating whether the offences could be connected.

Wright said: “I would say to anyone offered the jewellery, please contact the police. Obviously it could be something that’s stolen from us. We’re absolutely gutted and we want to see if someone can come forward with information.”
