GIA appoints new senior vice president of global development
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has announced the appointment of Anna Martin as the new senior vice president of global development.
Anna Martin joins GIA from Standard Chartered Bank where her previous role was managing director and head of global marketing, diamonds and jewellery.
Building on a career of more than four decades in banking serving the gem and jewellery industry, Martin will be responsible for broadening and deepening GIA’s relationships with clients and stakeholders and overseeing the institution’s global efforts.
Susan Jacques, GIA’s president and CEO, said: “Anna Martin brings invaluable and unique expertise and experience that will help us continue to focus on ensuring customer trust in gems and jewellery.
“Anna will help build our capabilities as a global organisation as work to deepen our research programme, expand laboratory capacity and bring gemmological education to more people around the world.”
In a statement, GIA added: “Martin served on the GIA board of governors from 1997 and 2011, and is one of the most well-known and recognised figures in the gem and jewellery industry. She has won numerous industry awards and has served on the boards of many industry organisations.”
Martin, who will start her role on September 2, said: “I am very excited to join GIA to help build on its history of excellence in research, education and laboratory services. There are so many opportunities for the gem and jewellery industry to do good in the world; I look forward to working with my new colleagues at GIA and seize these opportunities.”
