NAJ launches code of conduct at IJL

The recently launched National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) has outlined its ‘Code of Conduct’ at the International Jewellery London Exhibition taking place between September 6 and 8.

Agreed in June 2015, the association has set itself ambitious goals for the future and will build upon and develop the strengths of the British Jewellers’ Association and the National Association of Goldsmiths (N.A.G.), which merged recently to form NAJ. It said the formation of a single trade body will result in “strong leadership to galvanise the industry for positive change”.

The event has seen the launch of the association’s official logo and a consultation on the proposed ‘Code of Conduct’, through which members will acknowledge that genuine competition is fundamental to the jewellery industry and commit to the highest professional and ethical standards.

The guiding principles of the Code are: integrity, professionalism, compliance and value. NAJ said it will help enhance the reputation of the industry.

Michael Rawlinson, who was named CEO of the NAJ, said: “IJL is the perfect platform to introduce our new identity. The NAJ’s campaign, based on our strapline “The Mark of Quality” and used in conjunction with the coat of arms, will seek to raise consumer confidence in the jewellery industry, and with it, boost the business of member organisations.”
