De Beers appoints head of HR

Joy Roman will join the group on 22 March and work remotely from the US until later in the year

De Beers Group has announced the appointment of Joy Roman as its new executive head of Human Resources.

She will succeed Ann Cormack in the role, who is leaving the group to pursue new opportunities outside the business, and will join De Beers Group on 22 March, working remotely from the US until later in the year.

Prior to her appointment, Roman was most recently chief human resources officer for Toll Brothers, a Fortune 500 luxury home builder focused on the US market. Before joining Toll Brothers, she spent 10 years at 3M where she worked in a variety of HR and strategy roles across the United States and Asia.

Prior to 3M, Roman was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company. She holds an MBA from Yale and a BA from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Bruce Cleaver, CEO, De Beers Group, said: “We’re delighted that Joy will be joining our Executive Committee to bring her wealth of experience in people and strategy-focused roles as we start on the next stage of our business transformation programme.

“As we continue to evolve the business to ensure we are in the best position to capitalise on the opportunities ahead of us, and as we continue to build an even more diverse organisation, Joy will play a key role in driving our people strategy.

He added: “My thanks go out to Ann for the many contributions she has made during her time with De Beers Group, including leading the people and change-related parts of our transformation programme last year, and playing a key role in developing our response to Covid-19 at the outset of the pandemic – at a time when we knew very little about the virus but had to take bold action early to keep our people safe.”
