Pomellato unveils Ode to Milan collection

The bezel-set, cushion-cut spinels range from the classic red colour to the ‘lesser-known’ hues of warm scarlet, dusky pink, light mauve, sky blue and smoky grey

Pomellato is celebrating 20 years in business and to honour both Pomellato and the city of Milan, which has been its source of inspiration since 1967, creative director Vincenzo Castaldo has created a new ‘Ode to Milan’ collection.

The new collection is designed after the city’s history and hidden treasures through 33 designs.

The Ode to Milan collection is divided into several chapters, each reflecting a facet of Milan akin to the “multifaceted beauty” of a diamond.

Pomellato has chosen four distinct aspects of the Lombardian capital, drawing inspiration from themes as diverse as the “urban drama” of skyscrapers to mediaeval architecture, the creativity enshrined within La Scala, and the “magnificence” of the Duomo.

Pomellato said each jewel in the collection is named “to evoke these captivating scenes”.

The Vertical Landscapes chapter embraces Milan’s 21st Century architectural styles and the Rationalist skyscrapers such as the Torre Velasca and the colourful facades of Gio Ponti’s buildings.

The linear frame of the Skyline necklace brings together a selection of 128 “glorious” and “rare” spinels.

The bezel-set, cushion-cut spinels range from the classic red colour to the “lesser-known” hues of warm scarlet, dusky pink, light mauve, sky blue and smoky grey.

A matching pair of earrings feature 12 spinels that gently fade from glowing red to light purple.

This chapter also features the Giardini Verticali earrings, Urban Bloom mesh bracelets and choker, Nudo Triennale toi et moi rings and The Nudo Cascade choker.

Meanwhile, the Contemporary Heritage chapter includes necklaces, rings and earrings inspired by the imposing carved stone façade of Milan’s Castello Sforzesco. The history of Milan and its ancient fortifications is interpreted in the gold work.

The Castello necklace made up of rose gold plaques joined together by chunky diamond-set gourmette links and adorned with more than 28 carats of baguette, princess and brilliant-cut diamonds is part of this chapter.

Additionally, Creativity on Stage finds its roots in Pomellato’s legacy of chain-making, with each jewel serving as a metaphor for the creativity witnessed on the grand stage of La Scala theatre and along Via Montenapoleone.

The Sipario body chain necklace in this chapter features various styles of chains and diamond-set links draped down and around the torso. The large central link is set with a random pattern of sizable, brilliant and fancy-cut diamonds.

Lastly, the Terrazza Duomo chapter includes shapes found in the gothic façade of the Duomo cathedral and translates them into contemporary sculptural earrings, a choker, and two bracelets crafted in white or rose gold, adorned with white diamonds. These pieces encapsulate the essence of Milan’s architectural marvel in a thoroughly modern manner.

Sabina Belli, CEO of Pomellato, said: “We are very proud to present our most precious high jewellery collection ever in Paris, the capital of high jewellery, where we will share our unique vision. Pomellato is different as all of our designs are made to be worn everyday.

“We have always put women at the centre of the creation process, offering modern pieces of great quality and beauty that are easy to wear. This collection is no exception. Even the most precious pieces are designed to be worn casually and not just for special events. We believe that jewellery should accompany women on all occasions, in line with the emancipated and contemporary character of the Pomellato woman.”
