Kering launches sustainability award
Next June, at the JCK show in Las Vegas, four finalists will be selected: two from the student category and two from the start-up category
Kering has partnered with The World Jewellery Confederation CIBJO and the education platform Poli.Design – Politecnico di Milano to unveil the ‘Kering Generation Award X Jewelry’.
The new award aims to “champion innovation and sustainability” within the jewellery industry by engaging students and start-ups from around the globe.
The award is an expansion of Kering’s existing initiatives to foster responsible design and innovation, now tailored to the jewellery sector.
The award invites 10 universities and academies offering courses on jewellery and sustainability to participate alongside active jewellery-focused start-ups.
Each institution will nominate at least three projects developed by students under the guidance of local professors while start-ups will submit their own innovations.
Next June, at the JCK show in Las Vegas, four finalists will be selected: two from the student category and two from the start-up category.
Marie-Claire Daveu, Kering’s chief sustainability and institutional affairs officer, said: “Extending our Kering Generation Awards to jewellery is a pivotal moment in our commitment to advancing sustainability and innovation in the jewellery industry. This new edition, which brings together universities, start-ups, and future leaders, is designed to recognize and support those pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in sustainable jewellery.
“At Kering, we believe that fostering new ideas at the intersection of craftsmanship, technology, and environmental consciousness is essential to driving the transformative change the industry needs.”
Professor Alba Cappellieri, head of jewellery at Politecnico di Milano and scientific coordinator of the Awards, added: “Kering Generation Award X Jewelry” embodies the values of innovation and sustainability that are essential for shaping a future where beauty aligns with ethics.
“By bringing together young talents from leading academic institutions worldwide and start-ups, we are creating a collaborative platform that celebrates creativity and sustainability. We invite students and start-uppers to join us on this journey, to inspire, to innovate, and to lead together the future of sustainable jewellery.”
