Three-Minute Interview: PH Wedding Rings
We sit down with Gary Sinclair, director of PH Weddings Rings, to hear more about the business
Describe yourself in three words?
Passionate, positive and compassionate
When you were at school, what did you want to be and why?
I went to school in Glasgow in the mid-60s and 70s. The uniqueness of the people and its surroundings influenced my upbringing. As a youngster I wanted to be a vet. I guess the main reason was because I was motivated by the idea of giving, and also wanting to help in times of distress.
How did you get to be where you are today?
My father and I opened a discount jewellery shop in Glasgow which became an instant success. Before we knew it, we were opening more and more shops and quickly turned into a multiple jeweller throughout Scotland and Northern England. My main function was managing the new shops and dressing them. This was a great experience, learning how to interact with the public in different towns and finding out first-hand what consumers want. Our wedding rings supplier was PH Wedding Rings. We were bowled over by their price, quality and service. After a time, when we sold out of our retail operation, we made a beeline to try to buy this fabulous company PH Wedding Rings.
Which aspect of your job do you enjoy and why?
My favourite part of the job is developing new ideas through innovate designs, engineering machinery and tools, followed by the process of choosing the designs, launching through our in-house brochures, website and ultimately watching the orders coming through from these items that we built as a team from scratch.
What is your proudest achievement?
Following my childhood dream of being a vet, I went one better and trained as an ambulance technician, joining an ambulance service as a volunteer. I know it seems a bit clichéd but there is nothing like having a wonderful family and watching the children grow up, spending time with them and guiding them to follow their own path in life.
What is the best advice you’ve been given in work or in life in general?
That we have been put in this world for a reason. We should try to do find out what the reason is and to accomplish it and realise our full potential. Whatever we do, be it big or small, do it the best you can and aim high.
What is your next goal?
The next goal is to take PH Wedding Rings to the next level. We have very fine wedding rings and an excellent sales service. The retailers that we haven’t reached yet don’t know what they are missing and my goal is to try to reach them.
