Unveiled at the Jewellery Show, the Gold Paper details practices and policies used by refineries, suppliers, retailers, NGOs and banks to regulate and monitor the movement and provenance of gold with the UK supply chain.

Council members are invited to Salter’s Hall, London on 13 March for a day designed to introduce retailers to the issue of the gold chain of supply and the 10 recommendations in the Gold Paper. Key players involved in the production of the Gold Paper, such as Vivien Johnston, Greg Valerio and Simon Rainer, will speak at the event.

“The idea of the day is to try and encourage jewellers to take a real in-depth look at the current state of the UK supply chain, and see what they can do to improve it,” said Jewellery Focus columnist Michael Hoare, CEO of the N.A.G and founder of the Ethics Working Committee.

“We found during our consultation process that there are a number of initiatives that are working, but jewellers just don’t know about them.

“Along with transparency and traceability the industry also needs to communicate more effectively. Communication between jewellers and their suppliers, manufacturers and refiners is something we really need to be taking hold of – and a day like this is just the start of that process.”
