Five arrested after smash-and-grab raid at shopping centre jewellers
Five men have been arrested after an attempted smash-and-grab raid at two jewellery stores in a North London shopping centre.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called to the smash and grab raid at around 02:30am on Wednesday, 4 May, at Brent Cross shopping centre.
It is believed that a group of at least a dozen suspects smashed windows and stole items from the Goldsmiths Jewellers, as well as attempting to steal from Ernest Jones jewellers.
The suspects escaped on foot and bicycles and a search of the area was conducted by officers, with the support of police dogs and helicopters.
Five men, aged in their 20s and 30s, have been arrested and taken to a north London police station where they remain in custody.
A quantity of jewellery and watches was recovered, in addition to sledgehammers and pick axes, but Scotland Yard said it is still searching for the remaining suspects and property.
Inspector Fifi Gulam-Husen, of Barnet Police, said: “The public should be reassured that Met officers respond rapidly around the clock to tackle crime across London.
“This morning’s arrests demonstrate our determination to act with speed, intelligence and tenacity to catch criminals and to keep Londoners safe.”
