Synova brings DaVinci diamond system to market

Synova has launched the DaVinci system, a diamond shaping solution which transforms rough diamonds into “brilliantly” cut diamonds with up to 57 facets in a single operation.

The polishing process within the machine reportedly creates a “smooth final step” to remove remaining thin black carbon layers. Customers are presented with a “higher polished yield” out of rough stones through “greater accuracy, improved stone symmetry and reusable cut-off diamond chips”.

Synova said DaVinci covers “virtually” the full rough-to-polished process in a bid to make the diamond manufacturing pipeline “short and efficient”.

DaVinci claims the process will reduce diamond production time from weeks to hours.

According to the group, diamond manufacturers will be able to adjust capacity to meet fluctuating demand, but also choose production locations independent of where polishing labor is currently based.

Dr Bernold Richerzhagen, founder and CEO for Synova, said: “We’ve pushed ahead with our automated production solution to support diamond manufacturers facing pressures in the diamond jewellery market aggravated by the global coronavirus pandemic.

“Beyond digitalisation, automation is the response to the uncertainty we are all facing; DaVinci delivers vital competitive advantages to our customers both now and for the future.”

Additionally, Synova said it is developing software add-ons to allow automated fancy shaping. Initial tests were shown to be “very promising” with the new shaping application upgrades made available in early 2021.
